If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. like everyone else has. So you don't miss anything...
It’s exactly because of arguments like these that I have been changing over the whole way my business is perceived.
I agree with EVERYTHING John says in this post and he truly was the wrong target for these attacks.
However, we as Internet marketers need to appreciate the views of other people as a form of market research. Ballpark estimates say that half the Internet business world loves our “ebook seller” models and the other half hates it.
A good marketer should see that and think “Damn, half the Internet doesn’t like what I am doing. Maybe I can go see what they do like and model myself as a hybrid. So maybe I can get some leverage on that other half of the Internet.”
While I love John, Frank, Russell, Ed, Jeff, Eben, and all our other industry leaders just as much as the next guy. There are other marketers out there so big that their shadows can span across all our “gurus’ combined.
John Reese please don’t take this the wrong way…
Michael Arrington of TechCrunch.com makes over $250k per month with a BLOG and that blog has over 750,000 subscribers.
Kevin Rose of Digg.com receives over 25 million UNIQUES per month and is reported to have over 2 million registered users. Hows that for an email list!
Tom Anderson created a little website called Myspace.com and sold it for $580 million dollars to FOX. Myspace.com now has over 100 million registered users and gets paid 5 figures and more for ad campaigns from the largest companies in the world.
I could keep going with these facts for a long time. My point is that we as marketers should not be fighting this good fight but embracing it, analyzing it, and then capitalizing on it.
Who is it that is hating on us?
What is it that they don’t like?
How many of them are there?
What can I do to bring these people back?
Marketing and sales is at it’s core an “objection” search and destroy game. Then why are we as marketers not searching and destroying this “ebook sellers haters club” objections?
As you can tell I am very passionate about this as well as a good friend of mine Alejandro Reyes. We’ve been talking about this very topic for about a month now. Our websites, marketing, and characters are adapting because of it.
The result is we’re pulling in brand new partners on much higher levels then ever before. Love to talk about this more with anyone who cares…
Thanks for listening,
Justin Brooke
EDIT: This was not meant to show John Reese in any kind of a bad light. I am a raving fan of Reese’s work and certainly he is a legend in our industry. This was mainly directed at a lot of us who are still on our way up in the industry. Showing that we as an industry have the ability, and in my opinion the responsibility, to analyze why we have a stigma in so many peoples eyes. Then take actions to correct that.

Have you ever tried to get a big JV?
If you’re like me when I was just starting out then you prolly got a “no” or just never heard back from the person you were asking.
Well I already knew that in order to get a JV with a top level marketer. You have to either work your way in or buy your way in. But, Russell Brunson let me in on how he gets his JV’s by role playing with me and some of his other business partners
Step 1: Research your potential JV partner. Try to
find out whats going on lately in his or her life.
You can do this by subscribing to their list, twitter,
or myspace/facebook pages.
Step 2: PICK UP THE PHONE - emails don’t work and
it’s too easy for them to just press delete.
Step 3: Call them up and say something kinda like this…
“Hey John, this is {!firstname_fix} with yourdomain.com
I love what you are doing with your XYZ website. Hows
that doing for you?
Awesome is there anything I can help you with on it? My
specialty is blahblahblah.
Ok well I’m trying to launch a product of mine that’s highly
related to your XYZ site. How much would you charge me
for advertising?”
(They will either get the hint and invite you to talk more
about your product her and possibly a JV. Or they will give
you a price.)
If they invite you to talk more about the product here then do so. However, remember that they don’t so much care about how much they’ll make. They care about how much their list will like the offer, any cool gadgets they can win for promoting, and the quality of the product.
If they give you a price for advertising tell them it sounds good you’ll call back soon after you run your numbers to see if that price will work for you. Make sure you end the call with you trying to help them with something. All these guys are strapped for TIME and if you can save them some they’ll be putty in your hands.
The first call is never to try and sell them on yourself, your product, or a promotion. It’s about how you can help them with something. Then the law of reciprocity comes to play after you help them with something. Thats when you have your best shot at telling them about your product and asking for a promotion.
If all else fails… Bribery still works. Working so close with a lot of top marketers I see them getting packages of gifts all the time with a free copy of the senders product attached to a letter. The letter usually has the receiving parties affiliate details on them with a URL to where they can get pre-made promotional material.
All of this works based on the law of reciprocity and building emotions of guilt in the potential JV partner. When you call them on the phone they don’t want to be rude when you are only asking them how YOU can help save THEM some time. When you send them a bribery gift they feel like crap if they don’t at least call you back and get more info. When you bribe them and help them save some TIME on a project they feel like they now owe you something.
It works! It may not be the way you WANT to do things but it is the proven way thats been working for years.

There’s a set of tools out now that let you snipe out blogs for when they make a new post. You’ll know much quicker then RSS as to when they make the post so you can be the first commenter! This is highly beneficial if used in the right ways…
- Don’t be first everytime
- Leave a valuable comment that will make people want to know more about you
- Look for posts that are relative or that you can make relative to your website
- It must be a blog that gets commented a lot
The tool is called Comment Sniper and it’s a free download!
Thanks to Michelle MacPhearson for showing the world about it. I’m envisioning a dark room with a bunch of blogs quivering in fear huddle together in a corner of that room! haha

I just spent probably my best $75 over at www.30minutebacklinks.com - It’s a video and resources that show you how to get the most ridiculously easy backlinks ever. No worrying about no follow links, monthly submissions, or being spammy on someone elses website.
The idea is so simple I could ruin all her sales with just one sentence. However, that’s where all the value comes from! It’s simplicity and brilliance all wrapped into one. I have a full time virtual assistant that works over seas and have him constantly work on link building. I was able to give him this link building course without needing to explain anything else.
If you read Michelle’s blog you’ll find a post that has a $25 coupon code. You’ll also find tons of high quality social marketing advice. More then doing what she tells you to do - Watch what she does this gal is a KILLER when it comes to social media.
Hey Michelle - I know you’ll see this sooner or later since you’re a social media HAWK like I am. I truly want to say thank you and you really kick ass!

There’s been a great blog post written by Michael Martinez, Director of Search Strategies at 1st Query in Seattle, WA. Michael has been active in search engine optimization and the SEO community since 1998. I suggest you bookmark and read his blog, called SEO Theory.
Michael has laid out the tasks any competent SEO should be doing on a day-to-day basis for you in his post on Tuesday called SEO Checklist: Fundamental steps for every SEO campaign.
I wanted to take a few minutes to blog about it just because it’s hard work to build a system to doing anything and when someone is willing to give out that system they should be rewarded highly. If you look at every millionaire and billionaire in the world they all have systems to doing things…It is 100% those systems that have allowed them to become so wealthy. Once you have a system you have a map to where you are going. How could you ever hope to get somewhere you don’t know how to get to without a map?
Feel free to discuss this in the comments below:

HOLY CRAP!!! Jack and Howie hit it out of the ballpark this time! I was particularly interested in this report because I have been doing the search listing domination trick for almost 4 months now and teaching it to my students…However, I wasn’t smart enough to come out to the public with it like these guys did.
I did however present the technique at Russell’s seminar in Boise last week and everyone ate it up…These guys really have something powerful on their hands with their Bend The Web report.
Reading it…I kept cursing out loud at myself for not coming out with it first and how eloquently they presented the information. Absoultely, definitely, 100% the best report I have read - hell the best 29 pages I have read in all of 2007! No B.S. I am not being paid for this post.
I liked the report SOOO much that I spent the last 3 hours creating the “Bend The Web Toolbar” which Jack and Howie are more then welcome to claim full ownership of. I even made sure that it links back to their www.bendingtheweb.com site in the most prominent position possible.

I created the toolbar after reading the report realizing that many people will need and “all in one place” resource like this. Plus, I’m hoping to get on Jack and Howie’s good side! If you’d like to download the “Bend The Web” toolbar just click here for Firefox and here for Internet Explorer.
Note: Jack or Howie after reading the report I know will be seeing this post show up in your Google alerts…Drop me a line I’d love to chat it up with you guys. I hope you like what I have created, I had no bad intentions or tail riding in mind. I purely wanted to add value to what you guys are doing.
